Carney’; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, bilingual Union of South Africa issue (S./Sgt., S.A.A.P.O.), generally good very fine and better (7) £80-100

Leslie Henry Carney, who was born in Johannesburg in July 1916, enlisted in the Union Defence Forces in June 1940, following earlier service in the Pretoria Regiment and on the Reserve. Posted to the South African Army Postal Corps in East Africa in the following month, he was advanced to Sergeant and served in Egypt until embarked for Italy in March 1944. Having then gained advancement to Staff Sergeant, he was demobilised in September 1945 and notified of the award of his Efficiency Medal that November.
