Thomas Herbert Hepple was born in Marula, Southern Rhodesia in February 1912 and enlisted at Bulawayo in July 1940. Embarked for the Middle East in February 1941, where he joined the Rhodesian Reconnaissance Unit in 2nd Division, he was admitted to hospital in May 1942 and sometime thereafter re-embarked for the Union. Returning to an operational footing in January 1943, as a member of 6th South African Armoured Division, he witnessed further active service in Italy and was discharged in July 1945, once more having being hospitalised in late 1944. He had, however, qualified for the Africa Service Medal - his remaining campaign awards being issued unnamed by the Rhodesian authorities; sold with copied service record.
