Lance-Corporal John Tucker Buckler served in the 1st Rand Light Infantry and the Technical Service Corps. The 1st R.L.I., involved in some of the fiercest fighting of the Middle Eastern Campaign, earned the battle honours ‘Western Desert’, ‘Bardia’, ‘Gazala’ and ‘El Alemein’. Corporal Martha Elizabeth Blitenthal served in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Service. They were married after the war.
