George Esmond Haggie was born in Sunderland, and living in Foxcombe, Berkshire, enlisted at Oxford. He served initially with the Durham Light Infantry. Serving as Private 235467 in the 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 2 October 1917, aged 27 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
