George Charles Day was born in West Kensington, Middlesex and enlisted at Northampton. Serving with the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he was killed in action in the battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May 1915. He was buried in the Rue-du-Bois Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, near Armentieres. With copied research and a modern photograph of his grave. The Northamptonshire Regiment suffered some 550 casualties in the attack on that day.
