Trooper S. Day, 2nd Life Guards, served in the Boer War. He served in the relief of Kimberley, in operations in the Orange Free State, February-May 1900, including the action at Driefontein. In operations in Transvaal, May-June 1900, including actions near Johannesburg and Diamond Hill. In operations in the Orange River Colony, May-November 1900, including the action at Wiiterbergen. At the time of the Great War he was commissioned in the Essex Yeomanry and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war in 27 August 1918. He was latterly a Superintendent at the Army School of Physical and Bayonet Training, Aldershot. For his wartime services he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 5 July 1919).
