Charles Saddington was born in Northamptonshire. A Groom by occupation and serving in the 3rd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he enlisted into the Northamptonshire Regiment on 12 March 1891, aged 18 years, 6 months. He served in India, October 1892-January 1899, before being transferred to the Army Reserve. Recalled soon after for service in the Boer War, he served in South Africa, October 1899-June 1900 and May 1901-September 1902. Returning to England, he was discharged after completing his period of service on 11 March 1903. In addition to the above, Private Saddington was awarded the Queen’s medal with clasps for Belmont, Modder River, Orange Free State and Transvaal. Sold with copied service papers.
