Charles Browne Dashwood received his first commission on 17 July 1854. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December 1854 and Captain in February 1858. He received the brevet of Major in July 1872 and was advanced to that rank in November 1873. Promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1878, he retired with the rank of Colonel on 12 April 1879.
