Albert Herbert was born in Southampton. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Hampshire Regiment, he attested for service with the Hampshire Regiment at Winchester on 12 December 1895, aged 20 years, 4 months. With the 1st Battalion he served in India, February 1898-February 1903; Aden, February-June 1903 and Somaliland, June 1903-March 1904. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1904, and after re-engaging in 1907, was finally discharged in December 1911. Sold with copied service papers.
