William Tyte was born in Fermoy, Co. Cork. A Musician by occupation, he attested for service with the 40th Brigade of Infantry at London on 2 August 1879, aged 14 years, 4 months. Posted to the 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment, initially as a Drummer, he served in Malta, July 1884-January 1886; India, January 1886-November 1888; Burma, November 1888-January 1891; India again, January 1891-February 1901. He was discharged on 21 March 1901 on completion of his second period of engagement. William Tyte died on 30 March 1951. Sold with copied service papers.
