Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Belfast (3625 Pte. W. J. Halfyard, Devon Regt.) minor contact marks, good very fine £280-320

William John Halfyard was born in Exeter, Devon. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 1st Volunteer Battalion W.D.R.A., he attested for service with the Devonshire Regiment at Exeter on 21 November 1892, aged 18 years, 1 month. He served with the 1st Battalion in India, September 1894-September 1899, gaining his Mounted Infantry Certificate in July 1897. He then served in South Africa, September 1899-January 1902, before returning to India, January 1902-January 1905. He was discharged on 21 January 1905. In addition to the above he was entitled to the India General Service Medal with clasp for Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and the King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps. Sold with copied service papers.
