Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (T. Vivian, Ord., H.M.S. Druid, 73-74) edge bruise, good very fine £160-200

Thomas Vivian was born in Widcombe Batte, Somerset on 4 January 1856. He entered into the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class on 1 January 1873. Serving on the Druid, May 1873-December 1876, he saw service in the Ashantee War 1873-74 and was promoted to Ordinary Seaman 2nd Class in January 1874, Ordinary Seaman in March 1874 and Able Seaman in December 1874. After service on the Excellent and Lord Warden, he returned to the Druid, February 1879-September 1882 and was advanced to Leading Seaman in December 1880 and Petty Officer 2nd Class in May 1882. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class when on the Swift in November 1884. Sold with copied service paper.
