The M.B.E. awarded to Mr Frank Cox, who ran the Rhodesian Comforts Committee during the Second World War

Sold with a cutting from The Rhodesia Herald, 19 August 1977, of the recipient’s obituary; several photographs; papers re. the estate of Frank Cox; receipt re. the sale of a house at 71 Leylands Road, Burgess Hill; commission document appointing the recipient’s son, Dennis Cox, to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 24 March 1959; and a scrap-book containing papers of the Rhodesian Women’s Working Party, 1941-45.

Obituary reads, ‘Mr Frank Cox, a man known to virtually every Rhodesian serviceman who visited London during the 1939-45 war, has died at his home in Haywards Heath, Sussex, at the age of 78. Mr Cox never lived in Rhodesia but worked for the BSA Company in London and subsequently for Rhodesia House from 1912 until he retired in 1958. With Mr “Tickey” Baggott, now believed to be living near Umtali, Mr Cox ran the Rhodesian Comforts Committee during the war, organising the dispatch of parcels to Rhodesian soldiers and airmen and providing hospitality and help for those visiting London. For these services he was made a M.B.E.’
