Leading Cook Peter Preston served on the nuclear powered fleet submarine H.M.S. Splendid during the Falklands War. Unlike H.M.S. Conqueror she did not fire in anger but did provide valuable reconnaissance for the British Task Force and was instrumental in keeping the Argentine Navy restricted to port.
