William Anthony Philip Court was born in South Leicester on 13 May 1912 and educated at Kimbolton School and Selwyn College, Cambridge where he gained a B.A. in 1933; in 1959 he gained a M.A. In August 1933 he was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers from the Territorial Army, and in February 1935 was granted that permanent rank. Promoted to Lieutenant in August 1936, he served as Acting Captain, September-December 1939 and Temporary Captain, December 1939-May 1941. Promoted War Substantive Captain in May 1941, he served as Acting, then Temporary Major, February 1941-September 1942 and April 1943-March 1944, and was local Lieutenant-Colonel, October 1941-September 1942. In August 1946 he was granted the permanent rank of Major and in 1954 attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He served with the Egyptian Army, 1938-41, and for his services was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 30 January 1941). He was an Instructor, 1944-45, a Staff Officer Class 2 at the War Office, 1945-46; D.A.Q.M.G. Canal North District, Egypt, 1947-48; D.A.Q.M.G. War Office, 1950-52. Court was C.R.E. in Cyrenaica in 1956 and spent 6 weeks during the Suez Operations as C.R.E. at Port Said, and was later C.R.E. with the B.A.O.R. Lieutenant-Colonel Court retired in August 156 and died in 1977. Sold with copied research including confirmation of Coronation 1953.
