Group Captain Earl Gordon Palmer was born at Lethbridge, Alberta, on 23 March 1914, and joined the Royal Air Force in 1935. During the early part of the war he served in 172 and 612 Squadrons, with Coastal Command on anti-U-boat operations. Later, he served on the Directing Staff of the R.A.F. Staff College at Haifa, Palestine. In the rank of Group Captain he was Commanding Officer of R.A.F. Eastleigh, Kenya, from December 1955 to July 1958, and was afterwards posted to Rome as Air Attaché. He retired at his own request in April 1961 and died on 2 October 1977. Sold with copy record of service and five photographs including two of Princess Margaret on a visit to R.A.F. Eastleigh.
