British War and Victory Medals
(Lieut., R.N.V.R.), extremely fine (2) £80-100

Arthur Whiting, the son of Henry William Whiting of Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, was appointed a Sub. Lieutenant in the “Wavy Navy” in September 1914, but was discharged on grounds of ill-health at the end of the same year. However, his health subsequently took a turn for the better, for he was re-appointed Temporary Sub. Lieutenant in July 1915 and Temporary Lieutenant in January 1916. Having then assumed command of H.M. Motor Launch 403 in July 1918, he was killed in the following month in Runswick Bay when a German torpedo he was attempting to recover blew up.
