George James Powys enlisted at Birkenhead. Serving initially with the South Wales Borderers, then with the 17th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 8 October 1918, aged 19 years. Powys was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, near Cambrai. He was the son of William and Lydia Powys of 9 Oakleigh Grove, Bebington, Birkenhead.
