William Frederick Kerr was born on 1 November 1838. He was commissioned an Ensign in the 3rd Foot in March 1858 and attained the substantive rank of Colonel in October 1892. He retired in November 1895; the medal for Perak being his only award. Sold with copied research.

William Frederick Kerr, the son of the above, was born in the Punjab. A Clerk by occupation, he attested for the Buckinghamshire Imperial Yeomanry at Buckingham on 5 January 1900, aged 20 years, 6 months. With them he served in the Boer War, 10 February-31 October 1900, being discharged at his own request on the latter date. He later served as a Private in the Natal Rangers during the Natal Rebellion of 1906. As a Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion East Kent Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 1 September 1916. He was later placed on the Retired List on account of ill-health caused by wounds (London Gazette 12 November 1918) and was eligible for the Silver War Badge.
