Thomas McMurray was born in Aughlish, near Scarva, Armagh. A Telegraphist by occupation, he entered into the Royal Engineers at Belfast on 11 August 1880, aged 21 years, 8 months. With the Telegraph Battalion, R.E., he served in Egypt, 3 September 1884-16 November 1886. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 10 August 1888 and discharged on 10 August 1892.
Sold with a ‘Pass’ to visit the Pyramids, dated 2 October 1886 and a note of commendation to McMurray for services in Egypt and Sudan, dated Horse Guards, 30 September 1885 - these mounted on paper and card. Also with copied service papers.
