‘26 October 1859: After the Goole schooner Beverley had wrecked under Upton Cliff, south of Bude, Cornwall, during a gale, four men, by means of rocket apparatus, rescued six crew members. John Dyer particularly distinguished himself by wading in to the heavy surf, risking his life to save the Master’ (Ref. Lifeboat Gallantry, by Barry Cox).
