Efficiency Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue, T. & A.V.R., with Second and Third Award Bars (24110292 Cpl. C. Pilkington, Para), mounted as worn, minor edge bruise, nearly extremely fine £100-120
Sold with several extracts from Pegasus which mention the recipient. One such from the Exercise Ski Patrol of 1978, recalls, ‘One of the more amusing comments (as well as one of the few repeatable ones) came from Cpl. Charlie Pilkington when poised on a one in two slope on the Cairngorm. He announced to the world in general. “Eat out your heart, Franz Klammer, here I come”. He immediately fell on hs backside and slipped 60 yards down the slope using about five boulders as a break. Charlie’s performance over the next couple of days was severely restricted. ..... The methods of ascending the mountain varied from the highly professional use of ski-tows by Major Haakon, Sgt. Canavan, ... etc to the highly original use of the tows by the likes of Cpls. Boyle and Pilkington. This provided using whatever part of the anatomy which came into contact with the tow’.
