William Winterbottom was born in Preston, Lancashire. A Spinner by occupation, he attested for service with the 26th Foot on 27 October 1866. With them he served in India, October 1868-January 1875 and Malta, August 1880-April 1881. He was discharged in November 1887. Sold with copied service papers.
