A scarce ‘Canada’ reverse M.S.M. pair awarded to Sergeant-Major (Warrant Officer Class 1) P. Popplestone, Royal Canadian Engineers

Permanent Forces of the Empire L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (Q.M.S., R.C.E.); Canada Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R. (S.M. (W.O. Cl.1), R.C.E.) nearly extremely fine (2) £500-600

Percy Popplestone was born in Southpool, Kingsbridge, Devon, on 27 January 1878. A Bricklayer by occupation, he attested for the Royal Engineers on 16 April 1901. He served at home until November 1903 when he was posted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Clearly he felt he would enjoy life in Canada and he was discharged there in February 1906. It appears he then joined the Royal Canadian Engineers, as his papers for the C.E.F. in 1918 show 17years previous service. His C.E.F. papers show that he was an electrician and lived in Halifax. In March 1919 he re-enlisted in the Permanent Force, this time giving his trade as ''Mechanist for Telephones''. Popplestone was awarded his George V Canada reverse M.S.M. under General Order 133 of 30 July 1938, page 333.

Sold with copied service papers.
