New Zealand Territorial Service Medal, G.V.R. (Ven. Archd. H. A. Hawkins, Chaplain N.Z. Forces 3rd Class (1917)), naming rubbed, good very fine £120-160

Hector Alfred Hawkins gained his degree at Auckland University College and was ordained a Deacon and appointed a Tutor at Te Rau College in 1898. He was Superintendent of of the Maori Mission, 1900-31 and Archdeacon of Waimate, 1912-38. During the Great War he was a Chaplain to the Forces 3rd Class and was attached to the 1st Brigade N.Z.F.A., attached to the New Zealand Convalescent Hospital. He was appointed Vicar of Howick, 1930-38; Chaplain to the Bishop of Auckland, 1930-40, and Archdeacon of Auckland and Superintendent of the Maori Mission, 1939. During the Second World War he was a Senior Chaplain to the Forces, 1940-43, being the Vicar-General during 1940-44 and Priest-in-Charge of Papatoetoe and of Royal Oak (Diocese of Auckland) in 1944.
