According to records at the Public Record Office, 10 medals with the suspension bar worded ‘Somaliland Scouts’ were ordered from the Royal Mint in 1954. British Somaliland ceased to exist shortly afterwards and this, therefore, is probably the rarest variety of this series.

The Somaliland Scouts came in to being on 1st July 1943 and were transferred to the Somali Government on 26th June 1960 as the nucleus of a new national army.
