John Henry Blackhurst was born in Handsworth, Birmingham. A Labourer by occupation he attested for the Rifle Brigade on 7 July 1884, aged 19 years. In October 1890 he was transferred to the Ordnance Store Corps. He served in Gibraltar, February 1885-January 1886 and India and Burma, January 1886-January 1890. Blackhurst was transferred to the Army Reserve in July 1891 and discharged on 6 July 1894. Sold with copied service papers and roll extracts.
