New Zealand 1845-66, reverse undated (65th Reg. Assist. Surgeon Alexander Neill) officially impressed naming but ‘65th Reg.’ additionally engraved before the impressed naming, fitted with gold ribbon brooch, very fine £350-400

Alexander Neill was born at Coleraine, County Derry, on 10 March 1836, and was appointed Assistant Surgeon Staff on 15 September 1857. He transferred to the 65th Regiment on 3 November 1857, transferred again to Staff on 9 November 1867, and went on half pay from 9 July 1872. He served during the Taranaki campaign in 1860-61 and in the Waikato campaign in 1863-65, during which he was present in the action at Rangiriri on 20 November 1863. He died at Edinburgh on 9 March 1893.
