36th ‘Peel Battalion’ of Canadian Militia, an officer’s helmet plate c1878-1901, the gilding metal (probably originally gilt) die-stamped back plate of QVC star pattern but with maple leaves replacing the standard laurel, central circular strap ‘Canada Militia’ with ‘36’ in the centre, this with an original ground of scarlet cloth on leather backing, three lug fasteners; the corresponding gilding metal other ranks QVC star and laurel pattern with central strap ‘Canada Militia’ enclosing ‘36’ two lug fasteners; a post 1902 other ranks gilding metal helmet plate smaller seven pointed star with attached mount being the KC over a circle ‘Canada Militia’ and central ‘36’; an undress numerals forage cap badge solid brass ‘36’; two scarce die-stamped brass cap badges for ‘The Peel Regiment’ of militia 1920-23 KC over scrolls ‘Pro Aris Et Focis’ ‘Peel’ with ‘36’ in the centre, one fretted, one solid, good overall condition (6) £80-120
