3rd (Prince of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards, an officer’s fine quality 1871 pattern helmet gilt brass skull, with similar spike chin chain and rose side ornaments, the plate being a silver hob-nail cut elongated star mounted with a gilt pierced Garter Proper in gilt, this with a ground of blue enamel, centrally the Prince of Wales’s crest and motto on a red enamel ground, internally the period quilted silk sweat band and other lining present, front peak lined with green, skiver missing on the rear peak, a hair plume present black over red (the black nearly back to red), finial rose of incorrect size, no lining to the chin chain, a large chip to the lower part of the red enamel and a small section of the blue enamel missing, no retaining nut for the plume, some gilt loss to the spike’s quadrant £1000-1200
