An interesting 1897 pattern infantry officers sword owned by a RFC officer awarded the MC & Bar, the 84cm dumbell-section blade etched with crowned GVR cypher, royal arms, foliate scrolls etc., and within a cartouche the owners name ‘2nd. Lt. Cecil Alfred Stevens Esq MC and Bar Oct. 1917’, blade retaining almost all original finish, regulation plated steel guard incorporating GVR cypher, retaining its field service sword knot, fish-skin covered grip bound with copper wire, complete with its field service and full dress plated scabbards, good condition overall £200-250

Air Vice Marshal Cecil Alfred Stevens, CB, CBE , MC & Bar, born in 1898, educated at Emanuel School, commissioned into the West Riding Regiment later transferring to the RFC. His MC was gazetted 27 October 1917 and his bar 18 February 1918, both for services with the RFC. Transferring to the RAF with a permanant commission he served through World War II, finally retiring in 1954, sold with further details, including copies of the citations for the MC & Bar.
