A Georgian Volunteer officer’s sword, the curved 76cm blade with makers name to back edge J. J. Runkel, Solingen, single wide fuller, blue and gilt decoration for one third of its length incorporating stand of arms, classical helmet etc., retaining approx 50% of blue and gilt, copper-gilt stirrup guard chased with foliate patterns, herring-bone borders, ornate down-turned quillon, ferrule and shield-shaped langets chased with acanthus leaves, pommel in the form of a horse head with flowing mane, one piece ribbed ivory grip, complete with its black leather scabbard with three ornate copper-gilt mounts, the top locket with makers details within an oval cartouche, R. Johnston, late Bland & Foster, sword cutler & belt maker to his Majesty, 68, St James’s Street, London, minor hairline cracks to ivory grip, gilding polished overall, scabbard somewhat worn £450-500
