A Victorian officer's presentation sword of the Bridport Company 1st Dorset Rifle Volunteers, 1827 pattern rifle regiment officers sword the slightly curved 82cm blade by Robert Mole & Sons, Birmingham etched with crowned VR cypher foliate scrolls etc., and within a panel a presentation inscription 'Presented by the Non Comnd. officers & privates of the 1st Dorset R.V.C. to their Captain Comdt. Henry Saunders Edwards On the opening of their drill hall in Bridport Octr. 24th 1866 As a mark of their esteem', regulation steel hilt incorporating strung bugle, the guard and back-strap additionally decorated with chiselled laurel leaf design, fish-skin covered grip bound with silver wire, complete with its steel scabbard, good condition overall £350-400

Henry Saunders Edwards born at Bridport 1827, first commissioned on the formation of the Corps as Lieut. 22 August 1859, Captain Comdt. 7 October 1861, retired 1870, sold with further details.
