A Victorian officer's presentation sword of the Frodingham Company 1st. Volunteer Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, 1822 pattern infantry officers sword, the straight 84cm dumb-bell section blade by Samuel Brothers, 65 & 67 Ludgate Hill, London etched with crowned VR cypher within intricate foliate scrolls and within a scrolling ribbon a presentation inscription 'Presented by the members of the K Company (Frodingham) 1st.Volunteer Battalion Lincolnshire Regt. to George Dove Esq. JP on his promotion from captain to the rank of Major June 1893', regulation gilt brass hilt incorporating VR cypher fish-skin covered grip bound with copper wire, complete with its brass scabbard, blade retaining all original finish, much of gilding to mounts polished away otherwise in good condition overall £400-450

George Dove JP VD  born 1848 at Holroyd Hall, Barnsley, Captain 12 June 1886 1st Vol. Battn., Major 27 May 1893, resigned 18 May 1897, re-appointed as Captain 3rd Vol. Battn. 5 July 1899, Hon Major 5th Lincs. 3 September 1909, retired 1909.Sold with further research.
