19th Century, The Maharajah’s Well at Stoke Row, 1872, a white metal medal by J. Moore, Maharajah seated, attended by servant, rev. the well, 38mm (BHM 2946; Pudd. 872.1). About extremely fine (£60-80)

Sold with its original printed eight-page pamphlet, entitled The Public Well at Stoke Row, Ipsden, Oxfordshire, The Gift of the Maharajah of Benares, which reproduces the well on its front cover. The back cover carries an advertisement for John Wilder Ltd, illustrations of the medal and of ‘Improved Machinery for Deep Wells’, the company presumably responsible for the engineering in sinking the Maharajah Well
