Carlow College, or St Patrick's as it is known locally, is one of Ireland's oldest educational institutions. Founded in 1782 by Dr James Keefe, then Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, and his co-adjutor Bishop Daniel Delaney, and opened in 1793, it educated both lay people and those studying for the priesthood
