In 1904 the contract for printing notes was given to Waterlow & Sons Ltd. This followed a series of  internal problems within Perkins, Bacon & Co which had raised serious concerns about the continued printing and supply of banknotes. Due to the shortage of time available the basic frontal printing was retained although a fresh design for the backs was ready for the new issue in April 1905
