R.); Defence Medal; Coronation 1937; Police Long Service Medal, G.VI.R., 2nd issue (Ch. Inspr. Charles F. D.C.M. London Gazette 26 January 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a heavy bombardment he received word that serious casualties had occurred on the right of his company. He at once went with two stretcher-bearers, under heavy fire, to the position, and carried one of the wounded men away on his back a distance of 100 yards. He saved the man’s life and set a very fine example to the company.’
