Three: Stoker 1st Class J. Castick, Royal Navy

Joseph Castick was born in Accrington, Lancashire, on 30 December 1892 and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 10 October 1914. He served on the scout cruiser Forward, February-April 1915 and June 1915-July 1918, serving in the North Sea and Mediterranean, being promoted to Stoker 1st Class in October 1915. He then served on the destroyer Velox, August 1918-October 1919 when he was demobilised and joined the R.F.R. Sold with copied service paper; original Admiralty registered envelope, addressed to ‘Mr J. Castick, 224 Church Lane, Church, Accrington’, and an attractive patriotic embroidery incorporating a photograph of the recipient.
