James McLeman was born in Berwick-on-Tweed and enlisted at Alnwick. Serving with the 7th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 27 March 1916, aged 21 years. He was buried in the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, Belgium. He was the son of William and Margaret McLeman, of 109 Douglass Terrace, Newcastle-on-Tyne.
