Lieutenant Kenneth Leslie Hallward was killed in action in France and Flanders on 28 May 1916, whilst serving with the 3rd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. He is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St Eloi, France.

The following is extracted from a photocopy of a contemporary newspaper cutting included with the lot: ‘Second Lieutenant Kenneth Leslie Hallward, Worcestershire Regiment, was killed on May 28 [1916]. Born in 1890, he was educated at Durston House, Ealing and Dover College, where he gained a scholarship. He joined the Artist’s Rifles in 1910 and went out to France with the regiment in October 1914. He received his commission in the Worcestershire Regiment in March 1915 and was wounded on April 1, 1915. He returned to the front on March 19 last. He was the only son of A. W. Hallward, New Scotland Yard, S.W., and Mrs Hallward, of Milton House, Bedford Park, and when war broke out was in the Civil Service, Somerset House.’
