Pair: Private J. Clayton, 2nd or Queen’s Regiment

Ghuznee 1839 (No.411 J. Clayton, 2sd (sic) or Queen’s), lightly engraved naming on reverse, with replacement ring and straight bar suspension, the latter inscribed, ‘Affghanistan, Ghuznee & Kelatt, Queens Royals’; Cabul 1842, unnamed as issued, with replacement scroll suspension, fitted with a plain clasp, first with edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine and better (2) £750-850

John Clayton was born in Leicestershire and enlisted into the 2nd Foot at Leicester on 4 November 1824, aged 18 years. Serving in India and Afghanistan with the regiment, he was several times tried by court martial, and his character and conduct were declared to be indifferent. He was found to be medically unfit for further service and discharged at Chatham on 10 March 1846. Sold with copied service papers.
