Franco-Prussian War / ‘Paris Commune’ interest, an interesting album bearing original photographs of the streets and buildings of Paris in the aftermath of the overthrow of the Paris Commune, March-May 1871, the photographs (20), by A. Hautecœur, 172 Rue de Rivoli, show the results of the bitter nature of the fighting as the communards resisted the government troops, street by street, building by building, the album in a poor state, some card leaves detached, some of the photographs a little faded but generally in good condition, scarce £300-400

The first page is inscribed in pencil, ‘Views of Paris after the Revolution 1875’. Each of the photographs is identified, the name of the street or building written in pencil in both French and English. The photographs are entitled, ‘’Ruins of the Rue Royal’, ‘Barricade in the Place de la Concorde’, ‘The Ministry of Finance’, Barricade, Place Vendôme’, ‘Hotel de Ville’, ‘Tuileries Palace’, ‘Inside the Tuileries Palace’, ‘The Louvre Library’, ‘Ruins, Rue de Rivoli’, ‘The State Council’s Palace’, ‘Palace of the Legion of Honour’, ‘Ruins on the Lille Road’, ‘Police Headquarters’, ‘St. Martin’s Gate’, ‘Granary of Plenty’, ‘Ruins of Neuilly’, ‘Maillot Gate’, ‘Auteuil’, ‘Issy Fort’, and ‘Palace of St. Cloud’.
