Extract from the 96th Annual Report Year Ended 1st July 1935 reads, ‘Bronze Medal, Certificate of Thanks, and 20/- to John Fitzgibbon, for bravely diving into the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near Lightbody Street Bridge, and rescuing a child from drowning, on the 9th June, 1934’.
