O.B.E. London Gazette 1 April 1919. ‘For valuable services in charge of submarine stores at Fort Blockhouse throughout the war’.

Richard Broderick was commissioned a Gunner on 11 July 1891. As such, whilst serving on the Hyacinth, he was one of the officers who landed and were involved in the capture of the the Dervish stronghold at Illig, 21 April 1904. He was promoted to Lieutenant, R.N., on 1 March 1913. He was later awarded an O.B.E. for his services at Fort Blockhouse, H.M.S. Dolphin.
