A Great War C.M.G., M.V.O. 4th Class group of five awarded to Captain A. H. Williamson, Royal Navy, commanding H.M.S. Hussar in the Somaliland 1902-04 operations

The Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, C.M.G., Companion’s neck badge conversion from a breast badge, silver-gilt and enamel, Garrard, London case of issue, minor enamel damage; The Royal Victorian Order, M.V.O., Member’s 4th Class breast badge, silver-gilt and enamel, officially numbered ‘698’; Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (Lieut. Commr., R.N., H.M.S. Hussar); Coronation 1911, silver, unnamed; France, Legion of Honour, 4th Class breast badge, gold and enamel, lacking centres, enamel damage, with rosette, in case of issue; together with a set of miniature dress medals (4) corresponding to the last four above

Adolphus Huddlestone Williamson was born on 5 July 1869, the second son of Sir Hedworth Williamson, 8th Baronet. He entered the Royal Navy in 1882, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1891 and Commander in 1902. During the operations on and off the coast of Somaliland 1902-04, he was in command of the torpedo gunboat Hussar. He was later Naval Attaché at Rome, January 1908-May 1910 and on 29 April 1909 was awarded the M.V.O. 4th Class on the occasion of the King’s visit to Baia. In 1910 he was selected to succeed Rear-Admiral Sir Douglas Gamble for service with the Turkish Fleet. In 1917 he was awarded the C.M.G. Captain Williamson died on 14 July 1918. Sold with some copied research. The relationship between the two groups is unknown.
