Ashantee 1873-74, 1 clasp, Coomassie (Capt. A. Cope, 2nd Bn. Rifle Bde. 1873-4), with silver buckle on ribbon, good very fine £600-800

Anthony Cope was born in 1842, the son of the 12th Baronet Cope (created 1611). He entered the Rifle Brigade as an Ensign by purchase in October 1860, was advanced to Lieutenant by purchase in May 1865 and promoted to Captain in October 1873. With the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade he served in the second phase of the Ashantee War in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful. He was promoted to Major in July 1881. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1890. He succeeded his father as 13th Baronet in 1892 and was appointed a J.P. of Hampshire in 1899. Latterly living at Bramshill Park, Winchfield, Hampshire, he died on 3 November 1932.
