India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89 (48582 Gunner G. Wilson, No. 7 By. 1st Bde. C.P. Dn. R.A.) very fine £100-140

No. 7 Battery, 1st Brigade, Cinque Ports Division, Royal Artillery.

Alferd Brown enlisted into the Royal West Kent Regiment on 20 January 1879, and, after service in Natal, was invalided after contracting a severe case of hepatitis and discharged from the Army in May 1883. However, he re-enlisted under the alias of George Wilson into the Royal Artillery at Dover on 14 April 1885. He was posted to the Cinque Ports Division and went to India with his unit, eventually serving in Burma, but despite all his subterfuge his previous service somehow came to light and was recorded on his service papers. He was finally discharged on 13 April 1901, intending to reside at West Malling, Kent. Sold with copy discharge papers.
