Edward Pettingall Youngerman was born on 4 February 1858. He qualified as a M.B., C.M. Ed., 1879. Appointed a Surgeon in the Indian Army, 1 October 1881, he served in the Burma Campaign 1885-87 with the 2nd Madras Lancers. He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in October 1901 and retired on 2 March 1907.
