Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Flying Victory (Michael Connolly, 13th Regt.), officially impressed naming, fitted with a ‘China 1842’ style straight bar suspension, some edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine £1200-1400

Michael Connolly was born in Forkhill, Co. Armagh. A Labourer by occupation, he attested at Liverpool on 25 July 1839, aged 18 years. He landed in Bombay in April 1840. His service in the Afghan War resulted in the award of medals for Jellalabad and Cabul. He returned to England on 28 July 1845. He is known to have exchanged his ‘Mural Crown’ Medal for the ‘Flying Victory’ issue. He transferred to the 19th Regiment on 17 July 1857 and was awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal with an annuity of £5 on 12 April 1860. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
